How to Use Find the Running Total (Cumulative Sum)
- Paste your numbers. One number per line, in the order you want them added.
- Calculate the running total. Each line of the result shows the total so far.
- Read down the column. The last line is the grand total of every number.
- Copy the result. Click Copy result. It all runs in your browser.

What is a running total?
It is the sum built up step by step. Each line adds the next number to the total so far, so you can see how the sum grows.
Does it work with decimals and negatives?
Yes. Numbers are added as values, so decimals and negatives are handled correctly, and a negative simply lowers the running total.
What is the last line?
The last line is the grand total, the sum of all the numbers you entered.
What happens to invalid lines?
Lines that are not numbers are ignored, so they do not break the running total.
