Frequently Asked Questions

What does left padding do?

It adds a fill character to the front of your text until it reaches the length you set. Padding numbers on the left with zeros, for example, lines them up neatly in a column.

How is the length counted?

By character, the whole visible grapheme, so an emoji or an accented letter counts as one. That keeps the result aligned the way it looks on screen.

What if my text is already long enough?

It is returned unchanged. Padding only adds characters when the text is shorter than the target length.

Can I use any fill character?

Yes. Type any character, including a symbol or emoji, and the first one is used as the fill. If you leave the field empty a space is used.

Is my text uploaded?

No. The padding runs in your browser and your text never leaves the tab.
