How to Use AI Token Counter

AI Token Counter - free online tool by All Tools Verse
AI Token Counter. Free online tool that runs in your browser.
  1. Paste your text. Drop a prompt or document into the box. The token, word, and character counts update as you type.
  2. Set output and requests. Enter how many output tokens you expect and how many requests, so the cost reflects real usage.
  3. Compare the models. The table shows the estimated cost for each GPT, Claude, and Gemini model, and you can sort by any column.
  4. Plan your budget. Use the cheapest model that fits your quality needs, or scale the request count to project a monthly bill.

Frequently Asked Questions

How accurate is the token count?

When the tokenizer loads, counts are exact for OpenAI models, which use the o200k tokenizer. Claude and Gemini tokenize a little differently, so their counts and costs are close estimates.

Is my text sent to any server?

No. The counting and the cost math run entirely in your browser, so your prompt never leaves your device.

What is the difference between input and output tokens?

Input tokens are what you send, such as your prompt and context. Output tokens are what the model generates. Providers price them separately, and output is usually more expensive.

Why do models cost different amounts?

Each provider sets its own price per million tokens, and larger or more capable models cost more. That is why the table lets you compare them side by side.

Are the prices up to date?

They reflect published rates as of July 2026. Pricing changes often, so check each provider for the latest before you commit to a budget.

What exactly is a token?

A token is a small chunk of text, very roughly four characters or about three quarters of a word in English, that models read and generate.
