Frequently Asked Questions

Is my data secure?

Yes! All processing happens in your browser. Your list never leaves your device.

Is this tool free?

Yes, completely free. No registration, no limits, no hidden fees.

Does this work offline?

Yes, once the page loads, the alphabetize tool works completely offline. No internet connection needed for sorting.

What’s the difference between case-sensitive and case-insensitive?

Case-insensitive (default) treats “Apple” and “apple” as the same for sorting. Case-sensitive sorts uppercase letters before lowercase, so “Apple” comes before “apple”.

How does duplicate removal work?

When enabled, only one instance of each unique item is kept. For example, if “apple” appears 3 times, only 1 will remain in the sorted output.

Can I sort lists with numbers?

Yes, but numbers are sorted as text (alphabetically), not numerically. So “1, 10, 2, 20” becomes “1, 10, 2, 20” not “1, 2, 10, 20”. For numeric sorting, use our Number Sorter tool.

What separators are supported?

The tool supports newline, comma, semicolon, tab, pipe, and space separators. Select the separator that matches your input format, and the output will use the same separator.

Can I download the sorted list?

Yes, click the “Download as TXT” button to save your alphabetized list as a text file to your computer.

What’s the maximum list size?

The tool can handle thousands of items efficiently since all processing happens in your browser. Very large lists (100,000+ items) may take a few seconds to sort.

Common use cases?

Perfect for organizing names, sorting product lists, alphabetizing bibliography entries, ordering categories, preparing sorted data for documents, or cleaning up messy lists.
