How to Use Convert PNG to JPG - Reduce File Size

  1. Add your PNG. Drag the file onto the box above, or click Browse Files to pick it from your device. Screenshots, logos, and photos saved as PNG all work.
  2. The tool reads it in your browser. The image is drawn onto an HTML5 Canvas. If the PNG has transparent areas, they are filled with solid white first, because JPG cannot store transparency and would otherwise turn those areas black.
  3. Check the saving. The image is exported as a JPG at 92% quality, and the original and new file sizes are shown side by side so you can see how much smaller it is.
  4. Download. Click Download JPG to save the file. Use Convert Another to start over. Your image is never uploaded to a server.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why should I convert a PNG to a JPG?

JPG uses lossy compression that is very efficient for photographs. For a normal photo with no
transparency, switching from PNG to JPG often cuts the file size by 60 to 80%, which speeds up
web pages and makes attachments lighter.

What happens to transparent pixels?

JPG has no transparency channel, so the tool paints a solid white background (#FFFFFF) behind the
image before exporting. Without this step transparent areas would come out black. Logos and
cutouts end up on a clean white background.

Is my image uploaded to a server?

No. The conversion runs entirely in your browser with the Canvas API. The file never leaves your
computer, so the tool works offline and keeps private images private.

Will the JPG lose quality?

JPG is lossy, but this tool exports at 92% quality, the point where files are much smaller yet the
difference is hard to see. For photos this is ideal; for sharp text or line art the original PNG
stays crisper.

How much smaller will the JPG be?

It depends on the image. Detailed photographs usually shrink the most (often 60 to 80%), while
simple flat graphics shrink less. The tool shows the exact before and after sizes for your file.

Does it keep the same dimensions?

Yes. The pixel width and height stay exactly the same. Only the file format and compression change,
not the resolution.

Is there a file size limit?

There is no upload limit because nothing is uploaded. The practical limit is your device memory. A
24-megapixel photo (about 6000×4000) converts in a second or two on a normal laptop.

Does it work on a phone or tablet?

Yes. The tool runs in any modern browser on Android, iPhone, iPad, Windows, Mac, and Linux. No app
or install is needed.

Can I convert several PNGs at once?

This tool converts one image at a time so you can preview each result. To convert a batch, run the
files one after another using the Convert Another button.

Why does my photo look slightly different after converting?

That is normal JPG compression at 92%. On photographs the change is usually invisible. If you need
a pixel-perfect copy with transparency, keep the original PNG.
