Frequently Asked Questions

Can it extract from scanned PDFs?

No, this tool extracts text from digital PDFs only. Scanned PDFs (images) require OCR software.

Is my PDF uploaded to a server?

No! This tool runs 100% in your browser. Your PDF is processed locally and never uploaded anywhere.

What’s the file size limit?

The tool handles PDFs up to 10MB. Larger files may cause browser performance issues.

Does it preserve the text layout?

Reading order is preserved, page by page, but PDF has no real concept of paragraphs, so complex layouts (multi-column pages, tables, sidebars) come out as a linear text stream. For most documents the result is clean readable text; for heavily designed pages expect to do light cleanup.

Can I extract text from a password-protected PDF?

Not directly. Encrypted PDFs must be unlocked before the text layer can be read. If you know the password, open the PDF in any viewer, save an unlocked copy, and extract from that. The tool will show a clear error rather than silently returning nothing.

Why did my PDF return no text?

Almost always because the PDF is a scan, the pages are images of text, with no text layer to extract. The fix is OCR (optical character recognition), which is a different process. A quick test: if you cannot select text in your PDF viewer, this tool cannot extract it either.

What can I do with the extracted text?

Copy it straight to the clipboard or download it as a .txt file. From there it is ready for editing, translation tools, word counting, feeding to scripts, or pasting into a document, anything that needs the raw text without the PDF wrapper.
