How to Use Barcode Generator

Barcode Generator - free online tool by All Tools Verse
Barcode Generator. Free online tool that runs in your browser.
  1. Choose a barcode type. Code 128 handles letters and numbers and suits most jobs. Use EAN-13 or UPC-A for retail products, EAN-8 for small packs, and ITF-14 for shipping cartons.
  2. Enter the value. Type or paste the number or text to encode. The tool checks it against the rules for the type you picked and warns you if the length is wrong.
  3. Adjust height and text. Set the bar height and choose whether the human-readable value shows underneath. The barcode redraws live.
  4. Download as PNG or SVG. PNG is ready to print and share. SVG stays razor sharp at any size, which is handy for large labels and print work.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which barcode type should I use?

Code 128 is the safe default because it encodes letters and numbers in a compact code. Pick EAN-13 or UPC-A for shop products, EAN-8 for small items, Code 39 for asset tags, and ITF-14 for outer shipping boxes.

What is the check digit?

Retail formats end with a checksum digit that a scanner uses to catch mistakes. If you leave it off, the tool calculates it for you, so EAN-13 accepts 12 or 13 digits and UPC-A accepts 11 or 12.

Why does it say my value is invalid?

Each retail format expects a fixed number of digits and numbers only. The message tells you the exact count needed. Code 128 is the most forgiving if you just want a general barcode.

Should I download PNG or SVG?

Use PNG for quick printing and sharing. Choose SVG when the barcode will be scaled up, because it is a vector and stays crisp on large labels and packaging.

Is my data private?

Yes. The barcode is drawn in your browser with a JavaScript library, so the value you enter is never uploaded to a server.

Can I use these barcodes on real retail products?

The tool encodes any number you give it. To sell through shops you still need a genuine product number issued by GS1, but you can encode that number here and print a scannable barcode from it.
