How to Use Readability Score Checker
- Paste your text. A paragraph or a whole piece of writing.
- Check readability. The tool works out the Flesch Reading Ease score from the words, sentences, and syllables.
- Read the level. A higher score means easier reading, with a plain-language level shown alongside.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the Flesch Reading Ease score?
It is a number, usually from 0 to 100, that rates how easy text is to read. It is based on the average sentence length and the average number of syllables per word.
What score should I aim for?
Around 60 to 70 is comfortable for most readers. Higher is easier and good for a wide audience, while lower suits technical or academic writing.
How are syllables counted?
By a standard estimate that counts vowel groups in each word. It is close for most text, though a few unusual words may be off by one.
How can I raise the score?
Use shorter sentences and simpler, shorter words. Breaking long sentences in two often makes the biggest difference.
